Filox-R is a filter media that consists of 75 – 85% manganese dioxide. As the level of MnO2 is
very high (Birm contains 1% MgO2, Greensand contains 3% MgO2), it is an excellent media to
remove iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide.
In many cases it can be used without additional oxidation, depending on the presence of
dissolved oxygen. Thanks to the excellent catalytic properties service flow rates are very high
compared to many other media.
Again, compared to other media Filox-R is very heavy and demands frequent backwashing.
